Window Tinting

Postby zoomzoomaz » Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:22 am

Does anyone know of a good place to get windows tinted around here? Up north would be preferrable, but I could go anywhere.

Also, I really want to get some overlays for the horrendous tails. Something like the attached picture. Do you think I could get the tint shop to put these on as well?

Those overlays are nice...I got some for my 08 STi, they lasted well thru last spring/summer..One of mine started to peel slowly over time, when winter hit, it just made it worst so I removed them. Theres some write-ups on IWSTi on how to do them with glass paint and is more durable..im tempted to give it a try cuz I hate the clear tails.

That is a good point, I am from AZ, so I forget about the winters here. I will go that route for the tails, especially if the overlays are only going to only last to the winter. Thanks!

You can still try it...my problem wasnt the overlay material...my friend who installed them, it was his first time doing tails, he works at tint ship..the corner lights on these cars have those humps on surface which made it hard. Kept getting some creases so kept having to reapply and reshape..used heat gun on them ofcourse to get to form but once they were on there for a couple days along the edges they began to pull themselves off...think they just got stretched alil too much on corner lights. Hatch lenses were easy since they are flat and smooth, those corner are PITA!

Window tinting on your model : $180
Painting/clearing/polishing taillights : $300...if they're brought in just as the pic is.
Our painter has been doing taillights for the past 6 years now, from erredescent paint, to smoked out looked
This is by far the highest quality way of doing it too...they look fantastic.
Otherwise we can also put a laminent on them, that will eventually peel,& it's still right around $200 for all 4 lights
Give us a shout, cuz we also do the XPel & Lamin-X clear bra's as well.

Ziptie the bulbs to something and let hang. haha!

$300 to paint taillights? Seems high. Checking the link above now, though.
-Joe

ps- Checked the painted/polished link, looks alot better then all clear. I also think depending on color of car depends on if the all clear looks nice or not. I think on white it looks alright, others need more color. But I still think $300 is high, but if ya got the money then go for it.

I talked to tintmaster on N. Oak the other day about doing my 07 WRX Sedan they quoted me $160. They also use solarguard film which has a lifetime warrenty on the film, its very high quality but the color selection is kinda limited.

So the important question is did you happen to meet anyone working there that was "not a FUCKING kid"?
