So, with all this talk about rims on the board as of late, it has made me think about upgrading. Currently I've got stockers (16x7 / 5x100) for my winter wheels and have Enkei RPO2-J 17x7.5 +48 for my summers. I have painted my stockers black and was going to run around on them but I don't think I want to go that route. I think I want to use my Enkeis' as my winters and go with something a little beefier for my summers. So I need some advice on size and offset for my 03 wagon. I have the fenders rolled which gives me more options without having to worry about rubbing. So this is what I was thinking:

size: 17x9 - I am not a fan of 18s so I am not going that route. I like 17s. The thing i worry about is how wide can i go safely without worrying about rubbing. Wagons don't have the flared fenders (that may be something I resolve in the future) so less clearance than the sedans

offset: 35/38/40 - since my 7.5 have a +48 offset and are not totally flush but are not badly sunken, I wonder how much of an offset i can really go safely.

Style and color: this is where my personal preference comes in but I am thinking either silver (match the car) hyper black (love the color) or blue (to go with my color accent.) and I still need to find a place to look at a variety of rims.

So anybody who want to chime in on suggestions and expertise on fitment, i will gladly listen.

BTW - unless I come into some money relatively soon, these will not be purchased until springtime. Just trying to figure what to get so I can work my budget.

If I figure out what I want to do before winter hits, I will just keep the Enkeis on for winter and get rid of the stockers to put into my wheel fund.

I am about as far from a fitment expert on a wagon as one can get so I'll leave advice giving to someone else, just wanted to post my spam. :)

17x7 would be a downgrade blue meanie. I believe people were running 17x9 on a wagon but with 235 tires. But i could be wrong.

So did a little research.... looks like the biggest people are going on the wagon is 8-8.5 and tires are between 225/40 - 245/40. the biggest thing I noticed is that i wasn't seeing anyone running sub +40 offset. most were running +48 or +45. it looks like the only way I will be able to go anything bigger is to do the sedan conversion but will still have rear issues.

So unless anyone else can chime in with other knowledge or findings, it looks like I will end up going

17x8 +40/45 235/40/17

now to find the wheels i want. Any suggestions on where to look. already looked at tirerack

Yeah, I knew the size wasn't right but thought they were cool looking anyway. Maybe could find them in a 9 +offset...

edit: mine are 8.5 +45 and there was a minor rub causing me to roll the rears

good to know. Mine are already rolled so I know now that I can go 8.5 +45 or 8 +40/+38

Those should fit. On my WRX I'm running a 17x8 with 235/40/17s. I'm pretty low on the coils, fenders are rolled and I rarely get rub. The only reason I do rub a tad is that the Star Specs are really wider than what the numbers say and I'm running only -.5 camber in the rear instead of the default -1.5 and that only happens in VERY hard turns when the conditions are just right.

Oh, and just FYI, I should be able to get you anything off tire rack for less than what they would ship them to you for, and sometimes I can beat discount tire as well.
