Just curious here, how much have you all spent on your car in aftermarket work and how much of that do you still owe? I never really thought about this until I started to add up the costs of everything I installed on my Miata. Total bill $7.5k

$4989.39 is what I paid for the aftermarket parts that were on the WRX when it went pop..

Some of that I have rolled onto the STi.. :)

I buy all my parts in cash - I figure they're extra / for fun so I don't mind waiting on them while I save up.

I haven't tallied up the total spent on mods and might shed a tear if I actually did.

Im relatively even :D

.. it helps when you buy a car with a bunch of crap with it to sell ;)

If I had to guess I'd say I was probably $500 or $1000 invested over the cost of the parts Ive sold

2002 WRX
2005 STI

Both stock, so nothing spent on mods. Just a little on car care products, maybe $20-$30.

I'd be willing to bet that most people who have modded their cars have spent way more on parts than they think they have.

I agree. I thought that I was around 15k in aftermarket parts. Turns out I have really spend $20,500 in aftermarket parts. Should have stopped a long time ago!

I agree. It is like when someone walks up and asks what you have done to the car and you are stund "Um, i blacked out the trim, and,,, " Yeah I had dozens of parts and a lot were cheap or used, but they add up.

Ha damn, I don't feel so bad anymore. Sadly I know another $5k is going to be sunk into the OBS over the years. I think I was at $4k when I decided to sell the wagon. This is part of the reason my wife wanted a TT over another Subaru, she knew I had no idea how to work on them which would slow me down greatly when it came to aftermarket work. Too bad the Subaru won out, I did not want to change my timing belt as often as I changed the oil.

I was just thinking about this the other day...

Bought the car w/ 800 miles on it for $27,500

Spent $60 on maintenance items (oil, filter, wipers)

Spent ~$20k on the aftermarket

Have yet to spend ~$1-2 getting all the bells and whistles polished and tuned

Good times... what can I say? It's addicting :downtown:

Calculating how much money I've spent on the Z is about as helpful to my sanity as a snorkel is in the desert.

Well, if my guesstimages are right - $4800 over six years. That is going to be on the high side since I included a couple of things that I have since sold (but can't remember how much I got)

Still to come: getting the up-pipe and down pipe put on (which wouldn't cost so much if it wasn't for that stupid siezed nut on the turbo/downpipe connection)

I have only spent a couple hundred bucks on aftermarket parts for the Leggy................

When I had the WRX, I figured it up at some point, and with the R/A gearset, it was right at $8,000 for aftermarket parts alone.
