I know I've seen it around here somewhere, but can't find the writeup....
What size can the front doors take? I know that with an adapter, you can actually make aftermarket speakers fit. How thick does the adapter ring need to be?

Im 90% sure it is 6 1/2". But possibly 5 1/4". Should just need 1/2" - 3/4" spacer to fix any speaker in there including component woofer's. Some shallow pioneer's and sony's will fit without adapters.

Crutchfield says its 5 1/2" inch front and 4" back speakers. As far as spacers go .. Kartboy makes some 1/2" or 3/4" hard plastic spacers that you could modify to fit whatever speakers you end up with.

IAPerformance has 6.5 and 5.25 adapters for the front doors, so you should be able to get either size to work. Spacer thickness needed will be dependent on mounting depth of your speakers.

2-1/2" speaker minus 1-5/8" = 7/8" spacer (with issues on large magnets & door panel)
2-3/8" speaker minus 1-5/8" = 3/4" spacer (max easy)
2-1/4" speaker minus 1-5/8" = 5/8" spacer
2-1/8" speaker minus 1-5/8" = 1/2" spacer
2-1/16" speaker minus 1-5/8" = 7/16" (8/16 would = 1/2")

regardless of what you do, you will have to modify the adapters.

What you have to worry about is the clearance for the windows inside of your doors. I run 6.5" speakers in my fronts. If you want to get technical, you need to roll your window down, pull your doorcard and speaker, then measure the distance from the outside of the speaker mount on the door to the window. Subtract some clearance and that is your max mount depth. Then you can purchase or make some spacers. I used to make my own out of plastic cutting boards from Target, but I find it easier to buy them now. As mentioned B4, the Iaperformance ones are good (http://www.iaperformance.com/product_info.php?products_id=1482 Up until recently, I have run seperates in my car. My last set were Pioneer Premier seperates and the woofers had a 2.5" top mount depth. In the past, I ran Polk audio 6.5" speakers with 1/2 in spacers with no problem. They had a 1 5/8" top mount depth. Dont know if it helps, but my .02
