I thought it was going to be at the same place but last time we were at the Blue River Parkway site. Looks like this one is at Blue River Glades which according to the map is off 71 highway and blue river road. I found the following link that shows the KC Wildlands different work sites. Select Blue River Glades to see where it is.

 You can bring your own handsaws or loppers, but those are really the only tools needed. OK gang, spent a few hours checking out the meet site today. And boy, is it amazing. Linda gave me the grand tour teaching all the way. The Blue River Glades are amazing. Probably the coolest thing to see was the stark difference between large areas that had been worked on by volunteers right next to areas that had not.

We will be parking right on Blue River Road. Actually, right off the road. And it can be real busy at times. KCWildLands will set up signs to warn traffic both ways there are workers in the area. It looks like this:

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii202/LordStanley1066/IMG00072-20100428-1435.jpg

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii202/LordStanley1066/IMG00074-20100428-1436.jpg

If we want a group car shot we can drive a mile down the road to a few cool looking locations. Wear jeans or long pants. Bring a water bottle because we arent going to haul the water cooler up some steep climbs. They will provide gloves, water, loppers and poison. As usual, it will start with a quick lesson of what honey suckle and garlic mustard looks like. And what impact you are about to make. Even though everything is green it is pretty easy to spot the stuff. Jeff, you wouldn't believe the size of some of the honeysuckle. Some are 20+ feet tall. There is one in particular you and I are going to go Jihad on.

You will also get the opportunity to touch a Chinkapin Oak tree. It might be 250-300 years old. When we came upon it there was a 6ft long black snake sunning itself on a branch. Before I could snap a pic it disappeared into a hollow limb.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii202/LordStanley1066/IMG00066-20100428-1413.jpg

So now for the directions:
Click on this link http://www.kcwildlands.org/ and then pan over the"Wildlands" tab. Choose Blue River Glades Natural Area. Scroll down to the directions part. There is a "click for directions" link. First click on Blue River Glades from the left hand side. Then type in where you are coming from below it. My cell is 816.204.6196 in case anyone gets lost.

Can't wait to see everyone and good times are in our immediate future! We will gather names in a hat and give away the $500 service and parts coupon after we are done.

You gotta go! It's just a snake. They are more affraid of us than anything.... Just think of a snake as a big worm. With a long tounge and teeth.

They are usually only out on sunny days to soak in the sun. And I hear they sleep in late on Sundays. So no worries.

Yeah all the sudden she was hanging with us, and I kept thinking "have I been cussing?"

She clearly hears a fair bit of your humor because she was catch all the humor. Nice young lady.

We climbed a hill, then I cut some honeysuckle under some full on hazing fire, then I stopped because could tell my heart rate was maxed out. It was bouncing off the rev limiter for sure.

The hill we started up was pretty steep. You could be dug in and just slide down, pretty crazy.

The best part was the nature lecture..

Those folks did pick the best place in the area for a fire ring, sucks that it distroyed peoples work, but, I totally would have done the same.

Great meet everyone! I know I had a great time.

Couple more of my highlights: (Aside from Jamison falls and the Nature talk/history of america)

Somehow my wife got the poison all over her face. If our children are mutants I know it's not my fault.

Jeff bragging about how we were taking the easy way down the hill, then proceeding to bust his ass twice. :P

Patrick on a hunt for the biggest honeysuckle in the woods, I'd declare his mission a success.

Thanks Patrick for coordinating the event and for the prizes and buying everyone some wings! 8)

So for the few of us on the first tour any chance of being let in on this now infamous "birdhouse question"?

So we're touring the glades with the lady, single file. Come up on the part where the devil worshiping campfire building low-lifes tore out all of the rocks and built their fire, set up benches, etc... everyone gathers around to check out the scene except for Jamison, which is directed to stay on the path for his own safety and the safety of others around him. She give the speech of vandalism and all of that, says she doesnt know why anyone would want to go destroy such a beautiful place. Jeff walks over, picks up a charred can and says "Well, I think I figured it out... Pop doesn't have a born-on date". Everyone laughs and starts to turn around to walk back to the path, there is Jamison pointing up in the trees, followed by "Did they build that birdhouse too? THOSE HOOLIGANS!!!". Hilarity ensues. The end.
