Hey everyone! I just wanted to post some pictures up of my friends Bugeye that I just finished about 3 weeks ago. I will probably have some more pictures up when the car is broken in and tuned, but for now it is still sitting as is. This took me about 3 1/2 weeks to accomplish... The APR kits are really nice, but like any other fiberglass kit they need ALOT of work to get them the way the need to be. It took me a few days just to get everything trimmed and where it needed to be for the 1/4 panels and the doors. Those are the most cruical parts of the kit, everything else is bolt on. With fiberglass kits there is always alot of pinholes and imperfections no matter how expensive the kit. Unless it is a really high end DTM kit for a Mercedes, those are usually ready to paint right off the shelf, but then again they are about $20-40k a kit. Anyways! I hope you guys enjoy the pics, it came out really good. I talked him into letting me do it Battleship Grey, I thought it would look really clean and bring out the body lines really well without going overboard with an obnoxious or stock color. He wanted to paint it Aspen White! NOOOOOO!

Quick list of mods...

Motor/tranny: Cosworth shortblock, Cosworth heads, APS FMIC, APS 3.5" TBE, APS headers, APS twinscroll up-pipe, 1000cc injectors, ATP GT35 twinscroll, APS fuel rails, Port/polish intake manifold, APS TGV's, USDM STi 6speed swap, Tuned by Clark Turner (the man)...

Exterior: Painted Battleship Grey w/black roof, moulded Mynes spoiler, 04-05+ tails, 06' Front end, scoopless hood, APR widebody kit etc...

Interior: Full weld in cage, Bride/Status seats, Defi gauges, EDFC controller, Alpine stero etc...

^^^^ Yup, it started out as an 03' that my buddy bought to replace his 06'. He picked it up for $2000 and it already had a black weld in full cage and was strictly used as a drag car. He used to have an 06' TR that he put the Cosworth block and STi tranny in. About 1,000 miles into the motor break in he got t boned by an old man... So he collected a fat check from insurance, they paid off some bills and his old car and gave him $20k in cash. So he went to town on this bugeye...Car came out really well...

I'm excited to see the numbers when he gets the motor broke in. I think he has a couple hundred miles to go, then his tiny vf39 comes off and the 35 twin scroll is goin on. He is goin to run E85 I think, so it should be a monster...

The paint looks amazing man. :D
Now the only thing i dont really agree with is the wheel color. The two really clash imo.
I think if the color was something lighter, maybe even shiny (gloss/semi-chrome) it would really complete the car. The wheel choice or design is great and works well, its just the color that is killing it for me.
:D The car is truely amazing though, you've done one hell of a job with that bugeye.

Dblurx4
11-30-2009, 04:01 PM
^^^^ I agree with you! The car is put together very nice, and the Rota SVN's look good I just done like the color choice. Although when he picked up those Rota's we were thinking of spraying the car the Lamborghini Reventon grey so the wheel color choice would of fit perfect. But since Lambo doesnt give out that paint code and its damn near impossible to match it up without spending hours and hours tinting colors I steered him towards the Battleship/Aviator Grey. I dont mind the wheel color, I just done like the Brembos done up Porsche yellow. O well! He is stoked about it regardless... So stoked he is trying to sell it to start a new project haha!

No not cool..... Justin had nothing to do with the paint and bodywork on this car. 95% of the paint and body was done at Elite collision by myself and my other painter. The other 5% was started at Gerber collision but they realized they were in over their heads and let the car sit for 3 months. That's when the car came to my shop Elite. And I'll try and post some pics of my car I just finished nothing special just a 98 Mark8 I painted for myself.

Ha! i have another brother.  Im 5'6" and am going to be getting to automotive paint here pretty soon with my dad.

The only thing i dislike about the wrx is the color of the wheels. They need to be somewhat shiny and not black. Then that paint would really look good.

I owe everyone an apology... I already wrote Matt (azpainter) as well as Joe from Goodspeed, I sent them an apology first before I decided to post someting up on the forum. I wanted to apolgize to them first without having any interrputions on the forms between members. First off... I have been an automotive painter/body technician for approx 7 years, I have worked on anything and everything and I am more than capable of whatever is thrown my way when it comes to paint/body work. I do paint/body work full time as my career, not as a hobby.

In a way it seems that I was trying to completely take credit for the paint/bodywork done on the bugeye posted in this thread, which in fact I did. I would like everyone to know that the ONLY reason I was trying to take credit for Davids WRX or post up pictures of the project was to try and get a little trust within the forum to maybe raise some sidework for myself out of the situation. When I lived out in Arizona, things were alot more fast paced and I was busy with work almost the entire time I was out there. Since I moved home in October of 08' things have been pretty rocky as far as the collision buisness goes. But I know as well as anyone else that the economy has taken it's toll on plent of people around the US, so I know that i'm not the only one that has had ups and downs. I have posted up some completed jobs here and there throughout the past year since I have been home, and since I left Arizona I don't think I have worked on one Subaru since I moved home other than my own. Like I said above, I was basically just posting up pictures of the completed car to gain a litte trust as far as paint/bodywork goes and go from there. What I did was not the right thing to do by any means, but I hope someone atleast sees something from my point of view. Which either way, it doesn't excuse my behavior...

I have not met Matt (azpainter) in person, but he did do a good job on Davids WRX. As far as Joe from Goodspeed goes, he is by far the best technician I have ever met. It is a shame Goodspeed is all the way in Arizona, because Joe is simply amazing at what he does. I know Joe and Jon at Goodspeed very well, and I feel a little ashamed for this whole situation. I believe Joe knows that I am in fact a trusting person, and a hard worker, and I am very good at what I do. I just didn't quite have my thinking cap on with this situation. I was thinking more about making more money myself due to my situation, than thinking about dissapointing someone that I know very well.

I really don't know what else to say besides I am sorry, and I am sorry if I misled anyone, and hopefully my apology will be accepted.

I have my flame suit on, so feel free to say anything you like, you have my permission...

To the board, I would like to explain that I have met Justin 4 or 5 times. I bought a fender roller from him, he has purchases the doors and hood from the wreck.

He has always been friendly, honest, respectful and trustworth.

Justin,

I think your note is a great one.

I see very little behavior with that much honor, most people tend to try to deny deny deny..

To admit a mistake and ask for forgiveness is huge in my book.
